URBAN CARPET 8 pieces 180x180 cm. embroidery on canvas

Carpets are representing different maps of Hutong areas in downtown Beijing with a size of approximately one square kilometre and a population of 30000. Each of them has been isolated and presented as autonomous town within the big city. They are embroidered by hand with the same technique of the propaganda slogans on large fabrics used by the communist party during the seventies. The carpets have been filled with white wire wool insertions.

We started the new year in our old neighbourhood, the people feel almost like family after all these years. We are rebuilding our kitchen and are almost finished....we are also still enjoying our christmas tree and are playing lots of 'boerenbridge' in between.
There are still a few day left, before school starts again....

It's great how the net works! Half a year ago i received an email , If i still collect paper bags, and yes i do!
So 2 weeks ago (finally) i met Jolanda and received such a wonderful bag with little bags in it...old ones, so beautiful!
I really like the idea that someone comes up with the idea....

So this idea is of a whole other dimension. I guess a lot of you know Roos, her husband is diagnosed with one of the most virulent forms of leukemia.
Her zen teacher Karen Maezen Miller came up with the idea of raising roses! Via this network you can support Roos!

We met 19 years ago in the kibbutz and we met again last week!
I remember her being creative...she still is!
With her beloved husband from the kibbutz and her two beautiful sons!

It was amazing seeing our children playing together and us talking
like it was yesterday.

We will meet again & drink another glass of wine!

My aunt and I visited Ethiopia last year. We also visited the Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa. It was so impressive to see the young girls and woman who were isolated by the community since giving birth to their baby too young. they have created a life-time-care for these woman.

Now there is this walk on bare-feet in Barneveld. I guess we all must join to walk for the hospital! 10 september 2011

It has been quit around here. I already got in this slow-motion, but we still had to finish school.

Finally....no more rush in the morning...we can really take it slow...
As you know i do like to collect and save things up....well...
it's too much actually. It's irritating me....finally....

So today i started to sort out all of these drawings of the kids.
I saved them up for 8 years!!!! I have started to put the nicest ones in a collage-book

We also went to the open-air-museum of Warffum. A small farmers village in the years 1800-1900. I do like the basic surroundings.
The colours they used and the basic designs. It also made me think of the house in Sweden. This one of Alma and Betty and their 2 brothers Hjalmar and Adolf.

This was our last week of school-holiday before the summer holiday will start (end of july...) We have been busy! We went to Schiermonnikoog for one day wich is always great and too short!

Writing letters...since we moved i am about to clean up the attic...we have an attic for the first time and it's already packed. I have collected a lot! But because we need to make another room in house, i must clean-up this space.
I used to write a lot of letters, even at school, we handed over all the stories written on paper. After school we could speak on the phone for hours again. Talking about all the major problems in a girls-life....
It's so precious all these notes, letters...and then i found the project of Daphne "Postparels en mailjuweeltjes". Have a look at all these stories...

I guess Luna (10 yrs) will not collect her girl-talk...since she is chatting with her friends and this is not to be saved....

Well, moving is quite hectic and starting a new job also. Fever came to our home aswell...so all the man in the house had to stay in bed for a couple of days...Still boxes to sort...the attic is stuffed....BUT we are really happy in our new home.
The kids like heir new school...they went from 400 children to a school with only 65!

I started our card by cutting, but i came back to drawing! The tree, the owl and the swing stayed!

Yesterday we visited the new school of the children. 65 children / 4 classes in total... now we have 18 classes...it will be a different world. The kids spent 45 minutes and they are enthousiastic about it! What a releave...

The first 'delivery' into the world i saw, is this little girl. She will have her name after baptism (6 weeks), she and her mum will stay in this bed for 80 days...when a son is born she has to get back to work after 40 days....when we visited her after 5 days i brought her a pink cloth to wrap the baby in. Instead of having 'beschuit met muisjes' we were treated 'marka'. It's raw dough which you eat with a spicy oil. I do prefer the 'beschuit met muisjes'.....

Everywhere you go, there are always children around. If you stop the car just somewhere, in a sec. there they are. Always happy to see you! In the two weeks i was around i saw three children being born. It's amazingly wonderful! And i was very happy to see them!

Drinking coffee is the hot drink number one...but with loads of sugar in it. I only drink it black...without the sugar.
Roasting the coffeebeans, making coffee is a true friendship-ceremony!
And Injera is a bit sour but it taste wonderfully well with all the nice spicy dips....only to eat with your right hand.

Home again...for almost one week. It was impressive and such a beautiful country. The rainy season had just finished so the 'tef' was still growing just before harvest. everything so green...i'll show some photos this week. But i take it slow...

Well...here i am in an internet-cafe in Debre Zeyt, just 60 km below Addis. It's amazing to be in the country and be part of the job that Tineke is doing here.
Two boys were born and one girl and i was there to see it all happen. So impressive...sooo basic but it really touches me in the heart.

I will be here for one more week and i have lots of work to do! So for now wish you all a good time and i will tell you more stories when i'm back home!
